Job Description
A high-energy and outcomes-focused consulting firm is growing its analytics engineering capability and is looking for a hands-on Analytics Engineer to join a significant government sector engagement. You'll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of architects, data engineers, BI specialists, and delivery leads to build a modern lakehouse-based reporting and analytics platform on Azure Databricks.
This is a role for someone who enjoys spending most of their time at the keyboard, building data pipelines, shaping analytical data models, and ensuring data is trusted, governed, and ready for business consumption.
Day to day, you'll be building and testing data pipelines across a modern medallion architecture, developing ingestion and transformation logic using PySpark and Spark SQL, and designing curated dimensional models that power dashboards, reports, and analytical data products. You'll work closely with business and technical stakeholders to define metrics, reconcile business rules, implement data quality controls, and ensure reporting outputs are consistent and scalable.
You'll also play a key role in establishing conformed dimensions, fact tables, semantic models, and governance practices using Unity Catalog, while supporting Power BI reporting through well-designed analytical datasets. This is a hands-on delivery role where you'll help shape design decisions, data standards, and engineering best practices while contributing directly to the build.
We're looking for someone with proven experience delivering production-grade analytics and data engineering solutions using Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, and modern lakehouse architectures. Strong SQL skills, dimensional modelling expertise, and experience building analytical data products that support reporting and decision-making are essential. Exposure to Power BI, Unity Catalog, data governance, and reconciliation frameworks will be highly regarded.
Just as important is how you work. You're someone who validates assumptions, questions source data quality, communicates clearly with stakeholders, and thrives in an environment where delivery, collaboration, and ownership are valued equally.
A hybrid working model is on offer, with a mix of office, client-site, and remote working. You'll also have access to paid certifications, ongoing professional development, and the opportunity to work alongside a highly experienced team of data professionals.
The engagement is initially a 6-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension as the broader programme progresses.
