3-Month Contract | Canberra / Remote| Major Global IT Vendor
We’re seeking an experienced Senior Storage Infrastructure Specialist to join one of the world’s leading technology vendors on a 3-month contract engagement. Following recent infrastructure upgrades, you’ll play a pivotal role in optimising a large-scale Dell PowerScale and Isilon environment — ensuring peak performance, scalability, and operational excellence across a petabyte-scale storage platform.
This is an opportunity to work with a global IT leader, applying your deep technical expertise to support mission-critical workflows spanning high-throughput ingest, editing, archival, and retrieval operations.
What you’ll be doing
-
Conduct a comprehensive technical audit of the current storage environment — documenting architecture, operational health, risks, and strategic recommendations.
-
Develop detailed architecture diagrams covering cluster configuration, tiering, and data services.
-
Create operational runbooks to guide administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
-
Deliver capacity and growth forecasts with actionable scalability recommendations.
-
Lead structured knowledge transfer sessions with ICT staff to ensure sustainable operational continuity.
Technical focus
-
Review and optimise cluster configuration across all-flash, archive, and legacy nodes.
-
Analyse and tune PowerScale data services — including SmartPools, SnapshotIQ, SyncIQ, and tiering strategies.
-
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across metadata, I/O, and protocol-level throughput (SMB/NFS).
-
Recommend architecture enhancements to drive performance, utilisation, and reliability.
-
Produce clear, concise technical documentation and maintenance guidance.
What you’ll bring
-
Expert hands-on experience with Dell PowerScale and Isilon (OneFS 8.x / 9.x).
-
Proven success in designing, administering, and optimising enterprise-scale storage for high-performance workloads.
-
In-depth understanding of scale-out NAS architecture, storage tiering, and data services.
-
Demonstrated ability to document complex environments and produce operational runbooks.
-
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex findings into actionable insights.
-
Scripting skills (Python/Bash) for automation and data analysis are highly desirable.
