Job Description
Lead Engineer | Hands-On | .NET, React, Azure
Sydney | Hybrid: 3 days in the office, 2 days WFH
You’ve probably seen “lead” roles that quietly mean less coding and more meetings. This isn’t that.
Here, you’ll lead a small team of four senior engineers while staying close to the code yourself. You’ll be the one setting the technical direction, designing solutions, and guiding architecture decisions, but you’ll also be in the thick of it, pairing with your team and shipping features that matter.
What makes you successful here?
-
You think in systems. You can zoom out to see the bigger picture - how services scale, how data flows, how everything connects, but also zoom back in to fix the details that others might miss.
-
You lead design and architecture with conviction, but you know how to bring people with you, not just hand down decisions.
-
You thrive on tough problems. This is a complex, high-traffic platform, and you’ll often need to think on your feet, balancing short-term fixes with long-term vision.
-
You’re still an engineer at heart. Clean code, CI/CD, event-driven architecture, microservices - you care about the craft as much as the outcome.
And if you’re ambitious, there’s more: succeed in this role and there’s a clear path to step up into Engineering Manager within the next 12 months.
The payoff?
You get the best of both worlds, hands-on engineering and true technical leadership. You’ll help smart, senior engineers grow, shape a platform that thousands of families and schools rely on daily, and see your decisions ripple through at scale.
Add to that an inclusive, no-ego culture, genuine room to expand your skills, hybrid flexibility (3 days in the Sydney office, 2 days from home), and even your birthday off and you’ve got a place where you can lead without losing touch with what you love about building software.
If this sounds like the kind of leadership role you’ve been looking for, let’s talk.
