Job Description
Principal Product Designer (Head of Design progression)
Full-time | Hybrid (Sydney)
About the Role
We're hiring a Principal Product Designer to join a fast-growing SaaS scale-up on a mission to redefine how complex workflows are managed in enterprise environments. This is a hands-on IC role to begin with, where you will set the design direction and lead end-to-end product discovery and execution. As the product and organisation scale, you will have the opportunity to build and lead a design function (Head of Design pathway).
You’ll be working at a pivotal phase of product evolution, with significant UI/UX modernisation and new AI-led functionality underway.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Lead end-to-end design outcomes for core product areas, beginning with a major redesign of the intake and matter management experience.
• Run discovery, research and testing to deeply understand user workflows and inform product decision-making.
• Develop and evolve a scalable design system to improve consistency, speed, and quality across a large, complex product surface.
• Partner closely with Product and Engineering on strategy, roadmap shaping and prioritisation.
• Set the standard for design craft, process and thinking, influencing how design contributes to the product and business.
What Success Looks Like (6–12 Months)
• Noticeable uplift in usability, visual clarity and overall experience across the platform.
• A well-adopted, scalable design system that supports faster, cleaner product iteration.
• Strong organisational understanding of user personas backed by robust research.
• Clear artefacts and frameworks that demonstrate the path to scaling the design function.
What We’re Looking For
• 6+ years in Product Design within SaaS, ideally with exposure to complex workflow or enterprise environments.
• Strong systems-level UX thinking paired with high-quality UI execution.
• Proven experience developing or operationalising design systems.
• Comfortable running user research end-to-end and translating insights into product direction.
• Able to influence product strategy and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams.
• Bonus: experience with AI-driven products or front-end implementation fundamentals.
Why This Role
• Impact: This is a foundational role at a moment where the product is being rethought from the ground up. Your work will shape the platform for the next stage of growth.
• Progression: Hands-on IC now, with the opportunity to build and lead a design team as the product scales.
• Culture: Small, sharp, and collaborative team where design has executive support and meaningful influence.
• Benefits: Competitive salary, equity, hybrid work, and strong investment in professional growth.
