Job Description
Head of AI Product
Sydney | Hybrid – three days in the office
- Own the AI product strategy for a leading, private equity-backed Australian SaaS scale-up.
- Launch AI assistants and agents that transform complex workflows and deliver measurable customer value.
- Partner directly with the CPO, influencing five feature teams in a senior, hands-on role.
The role
Backed by a global private equity investor, this established SaaS business is investing in its next phase of growth. Its platform is embedded in customers’ daily operations, connecting complex workflows, communications, data and financial transactions.
Reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer, you will own the AI product direction across the platform. You’ll combine strategic ownership with hands-on discovery and delivery, working with a dedicated AI enablement team and five feature teams to bring reliable, commercially valuable capabilities to customers.
The opportunity
- Set the AI strategy and roadmap: Identify high-value customer problems, prioritise investment and connect delivery to measurable customer and commercial outcomes.
- Build assistants and agents: Shape experiences that interpret information, recommend next steps and execute workflows, with clear decisions about autonomy and human approval.
- Develop shared capabilities: Partner with Engineering on reusable AI tools, grounded experiences and MCP/API capabilities that support multiple product teams and external agents.
- Own product quality standards: Define evaluation approaches, release thresholds and measures of accuracy, reliability and performance.
- Lead through influence: Establish direction, coach experienced Product Managers and help teams build their AI capability through practical delivery.
What you’ll bring
You have already taken customer-facing AI or ML products into production and can explain the decisions you made, the trade-offs involved and the results achieved.
Your experience will include:
- Significant B2B SaaS product experience, with ownership across complex software and multiple teams.
- Delivery of at least one AI assistant or agentic experience used by real customers.
- Technical fluency across LLMs, retrieval, tool use, model selection, context constraints, latency and cost.
- Practical evaluation experience: building test datasets, setting launch criteria, managing edge cases and monitoring performance after release.
- Strong customer discovery and product design judgement, including approvals, failure handling and recovery.
- Commercial judgement and the ability to influence senior stakeholders while staying close to delivery.
Experience with shared AI platforms, MCP, APIs, evaluation tooling or operationally complex vertical SaaS would be valuable.
Why consider it?
This is a senior individual contributor role with direct CPO access and influence across the product portfolio. It offers the backing, established customer base and delivery teams to turn a clear AI vision into products with meaningful reach.
The opportunity will suit an accomplished Principal, Lead or Head of Product who wants broad strategic ownership while remaining hands-on.
