Lead Data Engineer | Azure Databricks | Azure Data Factory | Enterprise Data Platform

I'm partnering with a well-established Australian organisation with more than 50 years of success that is making a significant investment in its data and AI capability. Rather than inheriting a mature environment, you'll play a leading role in modernising the enterprise data platform and defining how data is engineered, governed and consumed across the business.
This is a genuine leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys remaining hands-on while influencing architecture, engineering standards and the long-term data strategy.
What you'll be doing
- Design and build a modern enterprise data platform using the Microsoft Azure ecosystem
- Develop scalable, production-grade data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks
- Design data models and transformation frameworks that support analytics, reporting and AI initiatives
- Establish engineering standards, DataOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Improve data quality, governance and platform reliability
- Partner with architects, software engineers and business stakeholders to deliver data solutions with real business impact
- Help shape the organisation's future AI capabilities by building strong data foundations
What we're looking for
You'll ideally bring:
- Extensive experience as a Senior or Lead Data Engineer
- Strong Azure Data Factory (ADF) experience
- Strong Azure Databricks experience
- Experience designing enterprise-scale data platforms and architectures
- Expertise building robust ETL/ELT pipelines
- Strong SQL and data modelling skills
- Experience with DataOps, CI/CD and modern engineering practices
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Spark or other modern cloud data platforms would be highly regarded, but isn't essential.
