Job Description

About the Company

Our client is a globally recognised technology platform used by hundreds of thousands of small businesses and their advisors across Australia and around the world. Design is not a support function here, it sits at the heart of product development, with a team of 85+ practitioners globally and direct influence over product strategy and roadmaps. This is a place where great design is expected, celebrated, and acted upon.

Their collaborative, human first culture is one they're genuinely proud of, and it shows in how the design team operates - cross functional, trusted, and given real scope to shape what gets built.

The Role

This is a senior individual contributor opportunity for a seasoned product designer who is equally comfortable owning complex design challenges as they are elevating the people around them. You'll define, design, and deliver seamless product experiences within a dedicated product area, working closely with Product and Engineering on mid-to-large scale initiatives.

This is not a people manager role, but it is a leadership role. You'll mentor and coach other designers, contribute to design vision and direction, and help raise the bar for how the wider team works, through critique, knowledge sharing, better processes, and leading by example.

What You'll Do

Design Practice & Craft

  • Work with design leadership to shape the product design vision and ensure consistency and quality of execution within your product area
  • Own end-to-end design across complex, systemic initiatives - from problem framing through to detailed interaction design and delivery
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, visual layouts, and detailed interaction specifications that balance user needs, business strategy, and technical constraints
  • Design for accessibility from the ground up, not as an afterthought
  • Collaborate closely with other designers across the team, contributing to critique and shared ways of working

Research & Insight

  • Identify research opportunities and partner with researchers to plan and conduct user research and usability testing
  • Synthesise customer insights and data to make evidence based design decisions and inform product direction
  • Contribute to a deep understanding of customer needs, pain points, and behaviours within your product area

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Build strong working relationships with Product Managers and Engineering Leads, influencing prioritisation and roadmap decisions
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops to align teams around key decisions at the right moments in the process
  • Collaborate with developers during sprints for design QA and hands-on problem solving as issues arise

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor and coach designers in your team through critique, feedback, and knowledge sharing
  • Contribute to the team's professional development - through sessions, programmes, or simply modelling excellent design thinking
  • Help define and improve design processes that can be implemented across the wider team
  • Partner with Leads, Principals, and Design Leadership to continuously improve how the design function operates

What You'll Bring

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality product design work - with clear evidence of impact on both user experience and business outcomes. A portfolio is required to be considered for this role.
  • Hands on experience across the full design process, from discovery and problem framing through to detailed interaction design and delivery
  • Proven experience tackling large, complex, and systemic design challenges - not just single features
  • A deep understanding of user-centred design principles and genuine craft across interaction, UI, and visual design
  • Confidence presenting and defending design decisions to product, engineering, and senior stakeholders
  • A track record of mentoring or coaching other designers and contributing to team culture
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, agile product environment - SaaS experience is a plus
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices

Why This Role?

  • Your design work will ship to hundreds of thousands of users globally - the scale of impact is real
  • A mature, well-resourced design function with strong executive support and cross-functional respect
  • No people management responsibility - stay in the craft while still growing as a leader
  • Generous leave, flexible and hybrid working, employee share plan, and a genuine commitment to wellbeing
  • An inclusive culture that actively encourages candidates who don't tick every single box to apply anyway

How to Apply

The client's identity will be shared with shortlisted candidates. Please apply with your CV and a portfolio demonstrating the impact of your design work - applications without a portfolio cannot be considered.
