Job Description

Portfolio Manager opportunity at a leading Financial Services company to support a Data Technology Transformation Program within their Financial Markets division.  

Data Transformation program is around $30 million per annum, is made up of 4 key projects and has a total team of 200. This program is largely Agile and has 1-2 years to complete. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Portfolio Leadership & Governance
    Own and lead the full lifecycle of the data technology transformation portfolio, ensuring Agile delivery aligns with fixed business outcomes, timelines, and regulatory commitments.

  • Agile-Waterfall Integration
    Bridge Agile delivery methodologies (e.g., sprints, product increments) with Waterfall expectations (e.g., milestone tracking, stage-gate reviews, benefit realization).

  • Vendor Management & Oversight
    Oversee external vendors and delivery partners to ensure contractual obligations, performance KPIs, and integration timelines are met, while maintaining quality and cost control.

  • Strategic Planning & Investment Alignment
    Collaborate with C-level stakeholders to shape the roadmap, prioritize investments, and align data initiatives with enterprise goals, digital strategy, and regulatory compliance.

  • Milestone & Outcomes Accountability
    Track and report against critical business and technical milestones, ensuring delivery stays on course to meet agreed outcomes, including data migration, governance, and platform implementation.

  • Financial Management
    Manage portfolio-level budgeting, forecasting, and spend tracking, ensuring cost-effectiveness and value delivery from both internal teams and third-party providers.

  • Risk & Issue Management
    Proactively identify, escalate, and resolve delivery risks, interdependencies, and vendor-related issues that could impact program timelines or outcomes.

  • Stakeholder Communication & Engagement
    Act as the key point of contact for executive stakeholders, communicating progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly and regularly via dashboards, reports, and steering committees.

  • Team Leadership & Delivery Enablement
    Support Agile teams and product managers by providing clear portfolio direction, facilitating delivery across multiple streams while ensuring alignment with the overarching program vision.

  • Performance Metrics & Continuous Improvement
    Establish KPIs for both internal teams and vendors, leveraging lessons learned and delivery retrospectives to improve practices, reduce waste, and drive faster outcomes.

Essential experience:

  • 4+ years Portfolio Management, including financial management, reporting for internal teams and vendors
  • 10+ years of technology project delivery 
  • RAID and Dependency management
  • Implementing agile delivery principles
  • Banking and Financial Services
  • Knowledgeable about Data platforms and experienced in Data-related projects
