Sometimes it isn’t consulting you want to leave.
It’s consulting without enough depth.
Or ownership.
Or the opportunity to become genuinely known for something.
Perhaps you’re doing good work, but you’re one of too many people on the team.
Perhaps you want greater exposure to senior clients and the decisions behind the analysis.
Or perhaps you enjoy consulting - you just want to practice it in a more focused environment.
If any of that resonates, keep reading.
We are recruiting a Strategy Consultant for a specialist global strategy consultancy focused exclusively on Technology, Media and Telecommunications.
This is an opportunity to build genuine TMT expertise while working on high-impact strategic questions for corporate and investor clients.
Projects are typically several weeks long and delivered by small teams of around three to seven people. You’ll own a meaningful workstream rather than disappearing into a large engagement structure.
The work can range from sophisticated market modelling and business-plan assessment to growth strategy, commercial due diligence and other decisions shaping the future of technology, media and telecommunications businesses.
Day to day, you’ll:
-
Take ownership of a key project workstream.
-
Structure ambiguous commercial problems and develop evidence-based answers.
-
Build and interrogate market models, forecasts and business cases.
-
Turn complex analysis into clear, actionable recommendations.
-
Present findings and work directly with client teams.
-
Support and mentor junior colleagues.
-
Contribute to the culture and continued development of the firm.
We’re looking for someone with previous management or strategy consulting experience.
Experience from MBB or Tier 2 strategy firms is particularly relevant, although strong candidates from other consulting environments will also be considered.
Prior TMT project experience would be valuable, but it is not essential for someone with the analytical ability, curiosity and consulting foundation to develop that expertise quickly.
Your background will likely include:
-
Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
-
Experience owning substantial pieces of consulting work.
-
The ability to turn detailed analysis into a persuasive commercial story.
-
Confidence communicating complex ideas verbally and in writing.
-
A strong academic record.
-
A collaborative approach and willingness to support others.
-
Genuine interest in technology, media or telecommunications.
Why consider it?
You’ll develop deep expertise in one of the most dynamic areas of the economy without sacrificing the variety that makes consulting interesting.
You’ll work in small teams, gain access to senior leaders and collaborate with colleagues across an international firm.
There is a clear emphasis on training, mentoring and professional development, alongside opportunities to contribute beyond project delivery.
The package includes:
-
A level-dependent salary and performance bonus of up to 20%.
-
25 days’ annual leave.
-
Private health insurance allowance.
-
Annual fitness allowance.
-
Corporate mobile phone and SIM plan.
-
Hybrid working and broader development opportunities.
The position can accommodate different levels of consulting experience, from a tenured Analyst ready to progress through to an established Consultant.
Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents, or hold valid long-term Australian working rights.
The consultancy already has direct applicants in process. We are therefore speaking discreetly with a small number of relevant consultants who may not otherwise have considered the opportunity.
If you enjoy consulting but want greater focus, ownership and the opportunity to develop genuine TMT expertise, contact Ronny Haughton at ronny@theonset.com.au or 0448 808 848.
